Did you know you may be able to recover money for stock that has gone missing in a Takealot warehouse?
If your inventory has been misplaced, damaged, or stolen while in Takealot’s possession, you may be entitled to reimbursement.
Surprisingly, many sellers never submit these claims and end up losing money they could have recovered.
When does Takealot become responsible for your stock?
Once your shipment has been scanned and marked as received on the Shipped Shipments page in the Seller Portal, the stock confirmed as received becomes Takealot’s responsibility.
If those units later disappear from the warehouse, you can submit a stock loss claim.
Claim deadlines
Takealot only allows claims for missing stock within 30 days.
For example:
- Claim January losses during February.
- Claim May losses during June.
From 1 December 2026, Takealot will no longer accept claims older than 30 days. This means you won’t be able to submit a claim for January stock in March.
Can you still claim for older stock?
Yes—but there is a catch.
Until 1 December 2026, you can still submit claims older than 30 days, but Takealot charges an administration fee of R250 per claim.
For example:
- Claiming January 2026 losses in July 2026 will incur the R250 administration fee.
- Claiming July 2026 losses during August 2026 will not incur the fee.
Before submitting an older claim, make sure the value of the missing stock is greater than the R250 administration fee.
